Abstract
The Gaelic sports of hurling and football, native to Ireland, are increasing in popularity
worldwide. The injury profile of these sports requires multidisciplinary management
by sports physicians, orthopaedic surgeons, and musculoskeletal (MSK) radiologists,
among others. Advances in imaging modalities and interventional techniques have aided
the diagnosis and treatment of sport injuries. In this article, we review the literature
and our own institutional experience to describe common injury patterns identified
in Gaelic games athletes, their main imaging features and relevant therapeutic interventions.
We discuss the increasing prevalence of imaging services at sporting events and the
central role of MSK radiologists in sports injury management.
