The Guest Editors of this issue “Peripheral Neuropathies” of Seminars in Neurology are Drs. Michelle Kaku and Peter Siao.

Dr. Kaku is the Assistant Professor of Neurology at Boston University School of Medicine. She received her BA from Barnard College, followed by her MD from Stony Brook University School of Medicine. After completing her internship in internal medicine at Rush University Medical Center, she worked as a neurology resident and later chief resident at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York where she stayed on for fellowship in clinical neurophysiology. She has been Assistant Professor of Neurology at Boston University School of Medicine since 2016 where she has quickly established herself as a leader and skilled teacher in the field of neuromuscular medicine. Michelle was promoted to Program Director of our Neurology Residency Program in 2018, an obvious choice based on her excellence in teaching, clinical acumen, and dedication to the service of others. She is expert in the realms of peripheral nervous system manifestations of infectious disease, small fiber neuropathy, and amyloidosis.

Dr. Siao is the Associate Professor of Neurology at Boston University School of Medicine. After his residency in neurology at the Medical College of Pennsylvania (MCP), he completed fellowships at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in advanced electromyography and in sleep disorders, electroencephalography, and evoked potentials. Dr. Siao served as Director of Electromyography at MCP and then returned in 1998 to MGH where he was the Assistant Director of the Clinical Neuromuscular Unit. Since 2011, he has served as Director of the Neuromuscular Unit and Electromyography (EMG) Laboratory at Boston University. Principal author of the textbook “Practical Approach to Electromyography: An Illustrated Guide for Clinicians,” Dr. Siao is a recognized international leader in the field. He has directed CME courses at both Harvard and Boston University since 1999 and mentored many residents and fellows, including a number who became Director or Chief in their own right.

We greatly appreciate the efforts of Drs. Kaku and Siao, as well as all of the contributing authors, for their important work in this issue on peripheral neuropathy which, I am quite sure, will be of great interest to the readers of Seminars in Neurology. The issue is a tour de force, spanning issues from Guillain–Barre Syndrome and CIDP to infectious neuropathies, vasculitic neuropathies, small fiber neuropathy, and many more. I am personally grateful to Michelle and Peter for their dedication to making this a great issue, and we hope you enjoy it!
