Circulating platelets are heterogeneous in size.buoyant density and in regard to many enzimatic activities. To correlate platelet heterogeneity with age, cohort radionuclide label with seleniomethionine has been used «Ith equivocal results. We tried a new approach to work out the problem whether heavy platelets are young ones. Aspirin inhibits the platelet lipid peroxdation by permanently acetylatino the cyclooxygenase. If heaviest platelets were young ones the lipid peroxidation should reappear earner In the.. Platelet lipid peroxidation has been measured as MDA after thrombin addition. The platelet bottom and the heavy and light fraction separated by repeated centnfugations were examinated in regard to volume distribution (by TOA counterland MDA production in basal condition and 1,3,5, 7,9 days after aspire ingestion. In basai condition and after aspirin the MDA production in the heavy-large platelets is higher than in light-small platelets:but a platelets in next days after aspirin, that does not support the hypot he sis that platelet size is age related.
