Abstract
The three most common causes for bony lesions in patients over 40 years of age are
metastatic disease, multiple myeloma, and lymphoma. Oftentimes, these conditions have
a predilection for the hip region. The authors present the incidence, characteristics,
and treatment of metastatic disease, multiple myeloma, and lymphoma affecting the
hip joint to help clinicians accurately diagnose and manage these conditions. They
also present the senior author's technique of cemented long stem hemiarthroplasty
for treating these conditions when they affect the proximal femur.
