Is there a Hemostatic Effect of Peanuts in Hemophilioid Disorders?[*]
Publication History
Publication Date:
14 May 2019 (online)
Summary
1. Data on the effect of defatted peanuts in hemophilioid patients (deficient in Factor VIII or Factor IX) are presented.
2. Oral administration of peanuts is regularly followed by a decrease in spontaneous fibrinolytic activity of the blood.
3. A clinical effect of peanuts is limited and seems to be present only in mild disorders and in periods of mild relapse.
4. The data supports the concept that the peanut effect is indirect and is caused by an antiprotease delaying fibrinolysis.
