Summary

Prothrombin products prepared by Seegers procedure induce fibrinolysis when injected intravenously. This property is due to a contaminant denominated Prothrombin Activating Derivative-B, identified as factor XII. The fibrinolytic fraction accompanies prothrombin throughout the purification procedure and may be separated by chromatography on DEAE cellulose.
