Summary

The following changes in patients and dogs with acute pancreatitis or pancreatic necrosis were observed: shortening the plastic and glass clotting time, decrease of factor V, transistory decrease of fibrinogen followed by an increase of this factor, inhibition of euglobulin fibrinolysis, increase of plasminogen and antiplasmin.

Autopsy examinations revealed many thrombi in pancreas and in other organs in dogs as well in humans.

The authors emphasized the similarity between Shwartzman phenomenon and acute pancreatitis and suggest that heparin should be used in the prevention and treatment of acute pancreatitis in human.
