Die Kontinuitätshypothese des Träumens besagt, dass Träume das Wachleben widerspiegeln. Die empirische Forschung belegt diesen Zusammenhang eindrucksvoll. Spannend ist die Untersuchung von Einflussfaktoren auf die Kontinuität, z. B. emotionale Intensität, Bevorzugung von sozialen Themen, weil diese einen Hinweis auf die mögliche Funktion des Träumens geben können.
