Summary

The acute pancreatitis in childhood is in most cases mild without complications. Therefore, an oral nutrition can be started early within 36 hours. An enteral nutrition is indicated in case of inappetence, nausea or in a severe pancreatitis via a nasogastric or postpyloric (nasoduodenal, nasojejunal) tube. A polymeric formula for enteral nutrition can be used. A parenteral nutrition is indicated in patients with severe pancreatitis and paralytic ileus.
