Zusammenfassung

Selbstverletzendes Verhalten ist ein häufig auftretendes Problem bei Jugendlichen, das in den letzten Jahren deutlich zugenommen hat. Diese Übersichtsarbeit, basierend auf einer internationalen Literaturrecherche, soll einen kurzen Überblick über Formen und Häufigkeiten der Selbstverletzung geben sowie Motive, Ursachen und Risikofaktoren für selbstverletzendes Verhalten aufzeigen. Letztlich soll ein besseres Verständnis für dieses Symptom und somit eine raschere Überweisung selbstverletzender Jugendlicher in eine fachgerechte Diagnostik und Therapie erreicht werden, um Fehlentwicklungen oder persistierende Störungen abzuwenden.

Summary

Non-suicidal self-injury is a common problem in teenagers which has distinctly increased over the last years. This review, based on an international literature research, is to give a short overview of the forms and occurrences of self-injury as well as the motives, causes and risk factors of self-destructing behaviour. Finally a better understanding for this symptom and thereby a quicker referral of self-mutilating teenagers to professional diagnostics and treatment shall be obtained to avoid maldevelopment and persisting disturbances.
