Sr-85 Profile Counting and Scanning in Early Diagnosis of Bone Metastases

Summary

Most of the 105 patients examined in 1966—1968 were suspected of having bone metastases caused by a malignant tumour. They were studied by 85S scanning and profile counting. The results obtained by the two methods were similar and complementary. A new method is presented for the drawing of a normal curve in profile counting in which the sources of error are reduced to a minimum through comparison with both the value for the heels and the values of vertabrae Th VII and LIV.

Bei den meisten der 105 Patienten, die von 1966 bis 1968 mittels 85Sr Szintigraphie und Profilzählung untersucht worden waren, bestand der Verdacht auf Vorliegen von Knochenmetastasen nach malignen Tumoren. Die Ergebnisse der beiden Methoden waren ähnlich und ergänzten einander. Es wird eine neue Methode der Aufzeichnung einer Normalkurve der Profilzählung beschrieben, die die Fehlerquellen dadurch auf ein Minimum reduziert, daß die erhaltenen Werte mit jenen über der Ferse und über den Wirbeln Th VII und L IV verglichen werden.

Chez la plupart des 105 malades, examinés entre 1966 et 1968 par scintigraphic et comptage en profil du 85Sr des métastases osseuses étaient suspectes.Les résultats des deux méthodes étaient similaires et complémentaires. On décritune nouvelle méthode de l’enregistrement d’une courbe normale du comptage laprofil, qui réduit à un minimum les erreurs possibles, par une comparaison desmésures obtenues à ceux, mésurées sur le talon et les vertèbres Th VII et LIV.
