Zusammenfassung

Bei einem dreijährigen Zuchtbullen der Rasse Holstein-Friesian trat in unregelmäßigen Abständen eine rezidivierende Pansentympanie in Verbindung mit Inappetenz auf. Durch eine diagnostische Ruminotomie ließ sich eine Zubildung (15 × 10 × 8 cm) in der Haubenwand in der Nähe der Hauben-Psalter-Öffnung als Ursache ermitteln. Aufgrund des hohen züchterischen Wertes des Tieres wurde als Therapieversuch eine Exstirpation der Zubildung durchgeführt. Die histopathologische Untersuchung des Exstirpates ergab eine granulomatöse, aktinomykoseähnliche Entzündung, in der fadenförmige, grampositive Bakterien nachgewiesen wurden. Innerhalb von sechs Monaten nach der Klinikentlassung trat keine erneute Tympanie auf.

Recurrent ruminal tympany caused by a granulomatous inflammation near the reticulo-omasal orifice in a breeding bull. A case report

A three-year-old Holstein-Friesian breeding bull suffered from recurrent inappetence and ruminal tympany at irregular intervals. The bull was admitted to the clinic for further diagnosis and therapy. During a diagnostic rumentomy a protruding mass (15 × 10 × 8 cm) in the wall of the reticulum was found which temporarily obstructed the reticulo-omasal orifice. Because of the high breeding value of the bull, the mass was removed and referred to histopathology for further investigation. The cause of the tympany was a local actinomycosis-like granulomatous inflammation affecting the reticular wall. Bloat did not recur within six months after release from the clinic.
