Zusammenfassung

Chlamydophila felis ist ein bei Katzen weit verbreiteter Erreger, der bei bis zu 60% der Katzen mit Konjunktivitis oder Katzenschnupfen vorkommt. Die Verbreitung erfolgt nicht nur durch klinisch kranke Katzen; auch asymptomatische Träger scheiden den Erreger aus. Die Behandlung der Infektion ist insofern problematisch, als es sich häufig um Katzen handelt, die im engen Kontakt zu anderen infizierten Katzen leben, und somit die Gefahr einer permanenten Reinfektion besteht. Zudem müssen die verabreichten Antibiotika bestimmte Anforderungen erfüllen, wie z. B. eine gute intrazelluläre Wirksamkeit, da der Erreger obligat intrazellulär vorkommt. Mit diesem Übersichtsartikel sollen verschiedene Therapieschemata und Managementoptionen bei Katzen mit Katzenschnupfen beschrieben, verglichen und kritisch gegenübergestellt werden.

Summary

Chlamydophila felis is a common organism among cats and has been detected in up to 60% of cats with conjunctivitis or upper respiratory tract disease. Transmission is mainly caused by direct contact to symptomatic cats. Nevertheless, carriers without current clinical signs are able to shed the organism and, therefore, are a source of infection as well. Treatment and management of infection may be difficult as cats often live in close contact with shedding cats. The most common problem in multi-cat households is re-infection. The intracellular occurrence of Chlamydophila felis requires antibiotics that exhibit a good intracellular efficacy. In this review article, currently used treatment and management regimes are described and compared to each other.
