Zusammenfassung

Bei Störungen des Allgemeinbefindens, die insbesondere mit respiratorischen und neurologischen Symptomen einhergehen, sind bei allen Spezies auch Systemmykosen in Betracht zu ziehen. In dem vorliegenden Fallbericht wird eine generalisierte Infektion mit Cryptococcus neoformans bei einem Meerschweinchen vorgestellt. Diese in der Tiermedizin eher selten beschriebene Infektionskrankheit hat in der Humanmedizin mit der Verbreitung des humanen Immundefizienzvirus und den konsekutiven opportunistischen Infektionen an Bedeutung zugenommen.

Summary

Clinical manifestation of respiratory or neurological symptoms is not pathognomonic for systemic mycosis but has to be taken into consideration in all species. In the present report a case of disseminated infection with Cryptococcus neoformans in a guinea pig is described. Although a rare event in veterinary medicine, this mycosis has gained importance in human patients as an opportunistic infection associated with the spread of the human immunodeficiency virus infections.
