The Uptake of Radioiodine in an Anaplastic Carcinoma of Thyroid Gland Studied by Means of Radioautography (Report of a Case)

Summary

The story of a case in which a radioautograph of the metastatic lesion of an anaplastic carcinoma was made is described. As seen the highly undifferentiated tumors which are very malignant concentrate radioiodine in some extent. The administration is accompanied with a general improvement. Therefore the use of radioiodine as a palliation in anaplastic carcinoma might be of real value.

Résumé

L’histoire d’un cas dans lequel la radioautographie d’une lésion métastatique d’un cancer anaplastique a éte faite est décrite. On voit que les tumeurs non differenciés qui sont d’une grande malignité, peuvent concentrer de l’iode radioactif dans une certaine quantité. Nous constatons une amélioration aprés l’avoir administré ce qui nous fait croire que l’usage de l’iode radioactif dans des cas du cancer anaplastique est de valeur.

Zusammenfassung

Es wird die Krankengeschichte eines Falles beschrieben, in dem die Metastasen eines anaplastischen Schilddrüsen-Karzinoms nach Radiojodbehandlung radioautographisch untersucht wurden. Es wird gezeigt, daß der hochundifferenzierte Tumor, der als sehr maligne zu betrachten ist, Radiojod in gewissem Grad aufnimmt. Die Radiojodbehandlung ist mit einer allgemeinen Verbesserung des Zustandes verbunden. Es erscheint daher die Anwendung von Radiojod als Palliativmaßnahme bei anaplastischen Karzinomen von echtem Wert zu sein.
