Kopfschmerz und Schlaf haben gemeinsame anatomische und physiologische Grundlagen. Klinisch wissen wir, dass Patienten mit Kopfschmerzen oft gleichzeitig auch unter Schlafstörungen leiden und Patienten mit Schlafstörungen gleichzeitig unter Kopfschmerzen. Ob es sich hierbei um eine zufällige Koinzidenz handelt oder ob sich diese beiden Störungen gegenseitig bedingen, muss in manchen Fällen ungeklärt bleiben. Diese Arbeit gibt einen Überblick über die Zusammenhänge von Kopfschmerzerkrankungen und Schlafstörungen auf verschiedenen Ebenen. Sie orientiert sich dabei an den aktuellen Klassifikationen für Schlafstörungen und Kopfschmerzen.
