It is my pleasure and honor to introduce Dr. Sean C. Glasgow as this volume's guest editor. Sean is staff of Colon and Rectal Surgery and an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. Sean received his undergraduate and medical school training at Duke University in Durham, NC, graduating with honors at each level. He then commenced with his Air Force commitment and performed his General Surgery internship at Wilford Hall in San Antonio, TX, prior to completing his General Surgery Residency training at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Sean then went on to complete the University of Minnesota Colon and Rectal Surgery residency program in Minneapolis, MN. He returned to San Antonio where he went back on active duty as a colorectal surgeon, ultimately heading back to St. Louis to initially join the colorectal division at St. Louis University and now at Washington University.

Along the way Sean has served the military in several ventures. He was an F-15E Flight Surgeon for the 333rd Fighter Squadron in Goldsboro, NC; an instructor for 3 years at the U.S. Air Force Center for Sustainment of Trauma and Readiness Skills (C-STARS); commanded the 1st Special Operations Group Forward Surgical Team (FST) on a combat deployment to the Philippines; and deployed as the Lead Surgeon for the 655th FST during a tour in Ghazni, Afghanistan. He transitioned from active duty to the Air Force Reserves in 2016, and remains busy serving as a surgeon with the 932nd Airlift Wing at Scott AFB in Illinois.

Sean is a tireless surgeon, wonderful teacher, extremely bright man and leader, and has helped out me personally as well as the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons many times through the years. A gifted writer and researcher, he has many peer-reviewed publications, has been awarded grants, has presented nationally and internationally, and has served the ASCRS on various committees. Sean and his wife Jennifer have three children—Doug, Megan, and Kaitlyn—and currently reside in Kirkwood, MO. In his free time, Sean enjoys mountain-biking and spending time with his family.

On a personal level, I would like to thank Sean for his hard work with this volume, and more importantly for his time away serving our country, away from his family. On behalf of the readers and staff of Clinics of Colon and Rectal Surgery, I sincerely thank Dr. Glasgow for serving as a Guest Editor and for providing us with a superb issue on colorectal trauma.
