Aim:

20 years ago there was no laboratory method known in scientific literature, which was able to demonstrate specific effects of potentized remedies, assessed in independent replication trials.

Methods:

In the framework of a long-time research program, 17 different standard scientific laboratory methods were investigated regarding their potential to reproducibly determine specific effects of high homeopathic potencies under randomized and blinded conditions.

Results:

In 13 of 17 investigated models, specific effects of homeopathic preparations were observed. In 4 of these 13 models the effects of the homeopathic potencies were reproducible within given statistical power.

Conclusions:

Specific effects of homeopathic preparations can be assessed by standard scientific laboratory methods. The task of homeopathic basic research in the next years can be seen in determining the mode of action of homeopathic remedies as well as in developing methods to investigate quality and stability of homeopathic potencies.
