The Guest Editor of this issue of Seminars in Neurology is Dr. Kevin N. Sheth.

Dr. Sheth is an Associate Professor of Neurology at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut. He received his BA in Neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, followed by his MD from Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. His internship in Internal Medicine was at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, followed by residency training in Neurology as part of the Partners Neurology Residency Program at Harvard Medical School in Boston, with a subsequent fellowship in Neurocritical Care sponsored by the Combined Partners Program. He started his faculty career at the University of Maryland School of Medicine Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore as an Assistant Professor. I had the great fortune of recruiting Dr. Sheth to Yale in 2013, where he is now Associate Professor of Neurology, Chief of the Division of Neurocritical Care and Emergency Neurology, and Chief of Clinical Research for the Department of Neurology.

Dr. Sheth is a world authority on intracerebral hemorrhage, cerebral edema, subarachnoid hemorrhage, ischemic stroke, and neurocritical care. He is the principal investigator on numerous multicenter trials, and has rapidly developed a reputation as one of the most ambitious, thoughtful, and successful clinical investigators in the field of neurocritical care. He is an established leader on the national and international stage, holding leadership positions with the Neurocritical Care Society, the American Academy of Neurology, and the American Heart Association. His rise as a physician–scientist has been nothing short of meteoric. But Kevin is also a dear friend and a source of support to a great many people, including me. Quite simply, he makes everyone around him better, and people uniformly love working with him.

We greatly appreciate the efforts of Dr. Sheth, as well as all of the contributing authors, for their great work in this issue of Seminars. The issue provides a comprehensive review of neurocritical care, a growing field in neurology. The subjects discussed here are pertinent to all neurologists who practice clinically; the authors give tremendous insights into the rapid growth in the science behind what we do in neurocritical care. This is an outstanding issue of Seminars in Neurology, and we hope you enjoy and benefit from it!
