Antenatal screening for fetal heart disease: about 10 cases

Highlight the value of the ultrasound in the diagnosis and management of congenital heart disease.


A prospective study, conducted in the department of gynecology and obstetrics 'A' of Tunis, about 10 cases of fetal heart disease. All heart diseases were suspected on the morphological screening ultrasound.


Ten cases of fetal heart disease.

3 cases of heart disease were part of a malformation syndrome (Trisomy 9, T21).

Two cases of transposition of the great vessels (TGV).

A case of hypoplastic left heart syndrome.

A case of hypoplasia of left ventricular.

A case of aortic atresia.

Four cases of complex heart disease.

The presence of heart disease has not changed the obstetric management.

The mortality rate was 70% (7 cases out of 10).


Congenital heart defects diagnosed prenatally is possible and required adequate training of sonographers. Their diagnosis can improve the prognosis of the newborn.
