Background/Purpose: A particular challenge in pediatric neurology is the palliative treatment and accompaniment of children with life-limiting complex neurological disorders. The symptoms depend on the development level and age of the child. In the first years of life movement disorders and epileptic seizures occur, later additional disturbances of sensory functions, language and mental impairments. In the course most of the children develop severe insomnia, restlessness or neuroirritability, seizures, pain and spasticity or dystonia, which are very distressing for the patient, the parents and the environment. By the limits of communication we often cannot interpret many symptoms such as restlessness and screaming.

Results and Conclusions: In the lecture palliative diagnosis and therapy of heavy distressing symptoms such as insomnia, restlessness or neuroirritability, seizures, pain and spasticity are described and illustrated using case studies.
