Ecdysteroids and iridiods are two main classes of compounds in Vitex genus, which comprises approximately 750 species. Their constitutive presence has
been reported in a number of genera in the family Verbenaceae. In addition to the
utilization of morphological features of plants belonging to this family, ecdysteroids
and Iridoids are useful chemotaxonomic markers to aid taxonomic identification [1].
This review describes the distribution of iridiods in various Vitex species and 13C-NMR data of the main iridiods found in this genus.
