Vitamin D reguliert nicht nur den Kalziumstoffwechsel sondern ist ein wichtiger Modulator der angeborenen und erworbenen Immunantwort. Es wird mit der Nahrung aufgenommen und unter UV-Einstrahlung in der Haut gebildet. In den Wintermonaten – wenn auch die Pneumonie-Inzidenz am höchsten ist – entwickelt daher ein Teil der Bevölkerung Mangelzustände.
