Rauvolfia vomitoria, rich in alkaloids, is native to tropical Africa. The plant and its alkaloids are used mainly as anti-hypertensive agent. Two new and several known indole alkaloids were isolated and characterized from the methanol extract of R. vomitoria. Spectroscopic data, including 1D and 2D NMR and ESI-MS, were used to determine their structures.
