Die Reduktion der Plaquebeläge spielt eine zentrale Rolle bei der Behandlung oraler Erkrankungen wie der Parodontitis und der Karies. Pathogene Bakterien bilden Virulenzfaktoren, welche über die Aktivierung des körpereigenen Immunsystems, aber auch direkt, das orale Weich- und Hartgewebe schädigen. Durch den Einsatz spezieller ätherischer Öle lässt sich das bakterielle Wachstum, die Adhäsion der Bakterien an den Gewebeoberflächen und die Entzündungsreaktion hemmen.
