Chemical constituents and antimicrobial activity of essential oil of Trattinnickia burserifolia, Tepequém, Roraima, Brazil
The Amazon presents about 99.6% of flora chemically unknown and is estimated that only 10% of plants of the globe were surveyed on their chemical constituents . The Burseraceae family owned Sapindales order, consists of 21 genera and over 600 species. The aim of this research to investigate the chemical composition of essential oil of the stem bark of Trattinnickia burserifolia the dry and rainy season in a defunct mining in Roraima called Tepequém . This is the first work on the chemical composition of the essential oil of the species in the state.The voucher specimens were identified and deposited in the Herbarium of the Federal University of Roraima under number 3863. The essential oil was obtained by hydrodistillation in Clevenger apparatus. One GC/MS system (Shimadzu Model QP 2010) with helium (He) as a carrier gas and the pattern of hydrocarbons C9-C22, calculated the Kovats indices and percentages of constituents was used. Were identified in dry period 23 components and 47 in rainy season. Among the identified constituents, stood out α-pinene, the δ-3-carene and limonene for both periods with different percentages. Data of the chemical constituents of the genus Trattinnickia were compared with other studies .In antimicrobial testing, standard strains and a fungus of the genus Penicillium sp. were used following the Kirby and Bauer method. Antimicrobial action was to Penicillium sp., Gram-positive bacteria: Streptococcus pneumoniae and Gram-negative bacteria: Escherichia coli and Proteus miriabilis. Previous study involving limonene showed that it is antimicrobial in nature while the plant α-pinene has been studied as agents to combat Gram-positive bacteria causing heart disease . The research concluded that the antimicrobial activity of the essential oil is effective for application in microorganisms.The mean values of inhibition zones were statistically analyzed by analysis of variance followed by Tukey test (p < 0.05) to determine the MIC.
