Over recent years a number of studies on oral hygiene and denture care have been conducted with institutionalised elderly people. These are consistent in showing that further action is still very much required in care facilities. The objective of the present intervention study was, therefore, to assess the oral health status and the oral health related quality of life of institutionalised elderly people in rural and urban areas and to improve their oral hygiene by training the nursing staff.
