Isolation of markers from roots of Daucus Carota (Black Carrots) to standardize Kanji
Compound-I (6, 4′dihydroxy 3′ propen chalcone) and -II (ferulic acid) were isolated and identified from methanol extracts of roots of Daucus carota L. subsp. sativus (Hoffm.) Arcang. var. vavilovii Mazk. (Apiaceae), which were then used to develop and validate a RP-HPLC method for the standardization of Kanji, a self-fermented probiotic beverage prepared from roots of the plant. The compound-1 and -II were detected using DAD and FLD, respectively. Both the methods of analyses were found to be easy, sensitive and repeatable, and may be used by herbal industry to maintain constancy among batches of Kanji.
