Glial Choristoma of the Tongue Considerations Clinical-Pathological: A Case Report

Introduction: The glial choristoma is a rare extracranial cerebral heterotopia that can involve multiple locations; its occurrence is more frequent in midline structures including the nose and nasopharynx, oropharynx, lips, soft palate, tongue, and tonsils.

Objectives: This study aims to report and characterize the presentation, diagnosis, progression, and therapeutic management in a case of glial choristoma of the tongue.

Resumed Report: A 5-year-old girl was referred to our service with a complaint of a lesion in medial position of posterior third of the dorsal surface of the tongue since birth, asymptomatic. Excisional biopsy was performed, as form of diagnosis and treatment, presenting result anatomopathological and immunohistochemical compatible with glial choristoma of the tongue. Patient evolves in postsurgery with preservation of mobility of the tongue, speech, and swallowing. In the postoperative follow-up between 30 and 90 days, patient showed no recurrence of tissue lesions.

Conclusion: There are few reports in the literature describing the presence of glial tissue in the tongue; therefore, the characterization of the presentation and biological behavior of these lesions are poor. Thus, this report contributes adding new data to the literature on lingual glial choristoma. As for the therapeutic management, for this is a lesion benign, consideration should be given preservation of speech, mobility, shape, and size of the tongue.
