Renal denervation offers a safe catheter-based approach for reduction of renal sympathetic drive. Based on present evidence, it appears to be indicated for the treatment of resistant hypertension. More studies are needed to assess its role in the management of less servere forms of hypertension and conditions driven by sympathetic hyperactivity, such as disorders in glucose metabolism.
