Rushoda, Nabtatali, Mutwah, Khala, Dekhaini, Ajwa, Khodry, Sullaj, Meneifi, Nabootsaif, Majhool, Sukkari, Segae, Ruthana, Barnial Madina, Shalabi, Sabaka, Luban, Rabeaa, Shaishee, Hilali, Khashram, Helwa, Safawi, Ruthana Alsharag, Anbara, Mabroom, Sefri and Deglet Noorin are major date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L., Palmaceae) varieties under commercial production in Saudi Arabia. Chemical composition and bioactivity of some of these date fruits have been reported. Recently, we reported the health-beneficial effects of Ajwa, an important variety of date fruit with religious significance1. The extracts of Ajwa date fruits showed good antioxidant and antiinflammatory activities. We now have expanded the evaluation of antioxidant, antiinflammatory and antitumor properties of all 29 varieties of date fruits commercially available in Saudi Arabia. Bioactivity profiles of these date fruits and related health-benefits will be presented.
