Cordia gilletii, a Congolese medicinal plant was investigated for biological activities and phytochemical composition. The bio-guided investigation led to the isolation of ferulaldehyde and lupeol which showed direct and indirect antimicrobial effects respectively. This work reveals that C. gilletii may act by a direct antimicrobial effect, by the enhancement or restoration of antibiotic activity against resistant strains (MRSA) and by an inhibitory effect on the expression of quorum sensing regulator genes, decreasing thus the virulence of microorganisms.
