Samples of Hyptis brevipes were collected from seven locations. The chemical study of this plant material was begun by extraction with CH2Cl2. The residue was defatted into hexane and MeOH-H2O 4:1, the latter was concentrated to 1/5 of its volume and subjected to extraction by using EtOAc. NMR profiling, as well as HPLC profiling and cytotoxic activity against nasopharyngeal (KB) and breast carcinoma (MCF-7) was performed on all the extracts, obtaining a total of six brevipolides (for example, compounds 1 and 2)1.
