Peucedanum japonicum Thunberg (Umbelliferae) is distributed in southern and eastern Asian countries. Phytochemical studies on this species demonstrated that the roots contained coumarins, chromones, polyacetylenes, sugar alcohols, and steroid glycosides. Among these compounds, angular pyranocoumarins were major constituents of this plant. In the study, eight new angular pyranocoumarins, twenty-nine known coumarins, two phenylpropanoids, two ferulic acid derivatives, and an indole alkaloid were isolated from the n-hexane and CHCl3 fractions of P. japonicum roots.
