Carpal Tunnel Syndrome - Choice of Syrgery Technique
Introduction: CTS is the most common pathological syndrome of all the peripheral nervs syndromes. Surgery is the definative solution for treating carpal tunnel syndrome. Objective: To pin point the choice of surgical technique - miniinvasive endoscopic or with one or two approaches and classical surgery without “conflict of interests.” To analyze clinical results. Material and Methods: During the period 2005 - 2013 in the University hospital “St. Anna” were operated on 632 patients with CTS. Within the series, 550 were treated by endoscopic mini invasive technique, with one or two approaches and the rest 82 by conventional surgery. The sex distribution was 410 female and 222 male. In 80% the affected hand was dominant and in 10% the disease engaged both hands. The most common additional finding was diabetes verified in 83 patients. Results: In 90% of cases achieved exellent results, regardless of the technique. In 15 patients required surgical revision because of persistence of subjective complaints. Conclusion: Accurate assessment of the choice of surgical technique, consistent with the experience of the surgeon are crucial for good functional result.
