Nierentransplantation – Meilensteine im historischen Rückblick

Die Geschichte der Transplantationsmedizin lässt sich weit in den Bereich von Sagen und Legenden zurückverfolgen, weil die Vorstellung, Organe erfolgreich transplantieren zu können, die Menschheit schon seit vielen Jahrhunderten faszinierte. Die Etablierung der Nierentransplantation ist nicht trennbar von der Geschichte der Transplantationsmedizin – die Meilensteine prägen ihre legendäre Geschichte. Es war zweifelsohne ein kreativer Prozess, welcher mühsam aus kleinen Meilensteinen entstanden war. Daher ist das Ziel dieses Beitrages, diese aus historisch-klinischer Sicht relevanten Meilensteine der Nierentransplantation und ihre legendäre Geschichte in einem historischen Rückblick würdigend als einen kreativen Entwicklungsprozess zusammenzufassen.

The history of transplantation medicine follows a long way back to the past at the times of sagas and legends, because the idea to be able to transplant the organs successfully fascinated mankind for centuries. The process of the establishment of kidney transplantation is not dividable from the history of transplantation medicine itself. The consecutive and successful establishment of clinical kidney transplantation takes the creative and curative significance of this relatively young method beyond all doubt. It was a long, laborious and creative process, containing a lot of small milestones. Hence, the aim of this paper is to summarize these from the historical-clinical point of view important milestones of the kidney transplantation and its legendary history as a retrospective historical review.
