Does centralisation of medical care lead to a higher interest in (postgraduate) professional education? A comparison between Scandinavia and German speaking countries

In 2008 the e-learning-platform GynZone for the education of midwives and obstetricians was first launched. GynZone produces 3D animation and video films for educational purposes. The content covers the clinical assessment, pain relief and surgical repair of perineal lacerations after vaginal birth.

GynZones offers individual licences for students, midwives, doctors and institutional licences for hospitals, midwifery schools and medical faculties.

Starting in Denmark, followed by Sweden and Norway, the e-learning-programme has users around the world. Since 2011 the programme has also been available in German.

After great efforts to announce the programme in the German speaking countries (Austria, Germany and Switzerland) there is still a mismatch between the positive feed back and the institutional use of the programme in hospitals and medical faculties compared with the Scandinavian countries (Denmark, Sweden and Norway).

We will show a correlation between the size of hospitals and faculties as a sign of "centralisation of medical care " and the interest of investment in (postgraduate) professional education as one possible reason for the disparity in using the e-learning programme.
