Zusammenfassung

Ziele der Palliativmedizinischen Therapie sind Prävention und Begrenzung des Leidens von Patienten mit lebensbedrohlichen Erkrankungen wie z. B. Krebs oder fortgeschrittene Herzinsuffizienz, d. h. der Schwerpunkt der Therapie liegt auf der Symptomlinderung. Viele Symptome der palliativen Situation lassen sich durch Phytotherapie behandeln. Die Auswahl der Therapie kann heutzutage in einigen Fällen aufgrund des Vorliegens von klinischen Studien erfolgen, ansonsten kann auf klinische Erfahrungen zurückgegriffen werden.

Phytotherapy for patients in palliative care

The objectives of palliative medical therapy are the prevention and relief of suffering of patients with life-threatening diseases such as cancer and congestive heart failure. Thus, the therapy focuses on symptom relief and end-of-life care. Many symptoms of patients in palliative care can be treated by herbal medicine. Clinical studies with herbal drugs are already available for some symptoms, however in most cases one has to rely on empirical recommendations.
