The present phytochemical investigation on Illicium difengpi led to the isolation of thirteen sesquiterpenoids, including five eudesmanes, three cadinanes and two bullatanes. Sesquiterpenoids from I. difengpi may have the potential to produce new insights into the historical debate concerning the systematic position and phylogenetic relationship of the genus Illiciaceae.
