Perception and Knowledge of Cancer by Guinean Traditional Healers: Breast Cancer Example

Plant remedies are being used by female patients throughout parts of Guinea. Currently Guinea face large increases in the number of people suffering from cancer. Among these, breast cancer remains the first while considering all consultation and traditional medicine remains the main source of medication for all patients with cancers. Through an ethnomedical and ethnobotanical survey conducted over the country 128 traditional healers were interviewed and 15 diseases like cancer were recorded. Medicinal plants were the main remedies from which the decoction and pasta pharmaceutical forms were the most popular. Among the most cited plants were Ananas comosus (18), Piliostigma thoningii (18), Mangifera indica (30), Ocimum basilicum (15).
