Nicht nur die anatomischen Unterschiede von Frauen und Männern tragen zu den unterschiedlichen Manifestationen und Häufigkeiten von Infektionskrankheiten bei beiden Geschlechtern bei, sondern auch weitere wichtige Faktoren wie Hormone, Immunsystem und ihre Gender-Rolle in der Gesellschaft. Diese Unterschiede sind im Hinblick auf Präventivmaßnahmen zunehmend zu berücksichtigen.
