Larvicidal activity of Thipohenes from Echinops transiliensis against Aedes aegypti: Structure Activity Relationship
Compounds were isolated from Echinops transiliensis root extract and evaluated for their larvicidal activity against Aedes aegypti. Compounds belonging to thiophenes group showed larvicidal activity. Compound 1 with LD50 values of 0.16 ppm was the most toxic followed by Compounds 3, 5, 8, 9, 2, 4, 6 and 7. Larvicidal activity was found to be related to an increase in thiophenes rings and acetoxy groups. Among bithiophenes (3, 5, and 8), the activity increased with increase in number of acetoxy groups. Monothiophenes (2, 4, 6, 7, and 9) didn't display this increasing trend in activity.
