Johanniskraut in der Onkologie – Perspektiven auf eines der bekanntesten Phytotherapeutika

Zusammenfassung

Johanniskraut ist eine der bekanntesten und am häufigsten eingesetzten Heilpflanzen mit breitem Indikationsspektrum. Die systemische und topische Anwendung dieses Phytopharmakons im onkologischen Kontext betrifft verschiedene Aspekte über die antidepressive Wirkung hinaus. Der folgende Beitrag gibt einen kurzen Überblick über den Einsatz in der supportiven Krebstherapie, der primär antitumorösen Therapie und potenzielle Nebenwirkungen durch Begleitphänomene wie die Phototoxizität und pharmakologische Interaktionen mit onkologischen Präparaten.

St. John’s wort in oncology: Perspectives on one of the best known phytotherapeutics
St. John’s wort is one of the best known and most widely used medicinal plants with a wide range of indications. The systemic and topical use of this phytopharmaceutical in oncology relates to various aspects that go beyond antidepressant effect. This article gives a brief overview of the use of supportive cancer therapy, the primary anticancer treatment and potential side effects through accompanying phenomena such as phototoxicity and pharmacological interactions with oncological drugs.
