Ursene-type pentacyclic triterpenes, including the ursolic acid 1 and a new ursene-type pentacyclic triterpene, 7,24-dihydroxyursolic acid were isolated from medicinal plant, Saurauja roxburghii. They were tested for the cytotoxicity against C6 rat glioma and A431 human skin carcinoma cell lines.. Biomimetic chemical oxidation using the “Ru”-porphyrin derivatives a-g, six ursolic acid derivatives 2-7 were isolated, their distributions and selectivity were apparently affected by the auxiliaries, a-g.
