Aktueller Stand der dentalen Stammzellforschung

Nachwachsende „dritte Zähne“ sind ein Wunschtraum seit Menschengedenken und werden auch von Patienten öfters ins Gespräch gebracht. Die Stammzellforschung, die heute in den Medien zu den häufig diskutierten Themen der Biomedizin gehört, hat solchen Wünschen neuen Auftrieb gegeben. „Züchtung von Zähnen“, „neue Zähne durch Stammzellen“ sind Schlagzeilen, die man so oder ähnlich immer mehr in Printmedien oder im Internet lesen kann. In der Zahnärzteschaft sind die Meinungen zu diesen Themen wahrscheinlich ähnlich breit gefächert wie in der Gesamtbevölkerung und schwanken zwischen Ablehnung aus Angst vor einem möglichen Niedergang von Prothetik, Zahnerhaltung oder Implantologie und einer Euphorie über neue „biologische“ regenerative Methoden.
