Composition of the essential oil of different populations of Myrtus communis L. from Iran

In Iranian folk medicine, Myrtus communis L. has been used as an infusion for various purposes such as for the Skin discords, digestive discords, astringent, good hair condition, bronchodilatotor, activities etc. The chemical compositions of the essential oil obtained from the leaves of Myrtus communis L. (Myrtaceae), from three different regions of Fars province, Iran by hydro-distillation using a Clevenger- type apparatus. The essential oils were analyzed by GC and GC/MS. The major components of the oil were α-penine (34–38%), 1,8-Cineole (21%), Linalool (8–12%) and Linalyl acetate (5.5–8%).
