Biomechanical Differences between Compression Plates and Bridging Plates in Osteosynthesis

Osteosynthesis with the help of plates has undergone major changes over the past 50 years. Previously fractures were mostly treated by an open procedure whereas, today, the focus is on minimally invasive management. The developments in treatment principles, methods, and surgical techniques as well as new clinical knowledge have led to the evolution of new plates for osteosynthesis and methods for anchoring them to the bone.
