Abstract
The study was carried out as an open-label, laboratory-blind, single-dose, randomized, two-period crossover, isotope efficacy study. Twenty-two patients with iron-deficiency anemia were enrolled in the study.
The study consisted of two treatment phases of 15 days each, including blood sample measurements for Fe-59 activity. The 2 treatments were given orally. Treatment A was Fe-59 labeled iron(III) -hydroxide polymaltose complex (IPC, Maltofer©), equivalent to 100 mg elemental iron given orally, and Treatment B consisted of Treatment A combined with 600 mg aluminium hydroxide (CAS 21645-51-2) (10 ml).
No differences between the two treatment groups with regard to the erythrocyte uptake were found, and thus IPC can be used with aluminium hydroxide, if necessary.
Zusammenfassung
Einfluss von oral verabreichtem Alumini-umhydroxid auf die Eisen-Absorption aus Eisen(III) -hydroxid- Polymaltose- Komplex bei Patienten mit Eisenmangelanämie / Randomisierte kontrollierte Isotop-Studie in einem Zentrum
An Patienten mit Eisenmangelanämie wurde der Einfluss der Gabe von Alumini-umhydroxid (CAS 21645-51-2) auf die Absorption und Utilisation von Eisen aus Eisen(III) -hydroxid- Polymaltose- Komplex (IPC) untersucht. Die Studie wurde als offene laborverblindete randomisierte Zwei-Phasen-Cross-over-Studie mit einmaliger Gabe von Test- bzw. Referenzmedikation durchgeführt. 22 Patienten mit Eisenmangel beendeten die Studie.
Die beiden Behandlungsphasen bestanden aus je 15 Tagen - einschließlich der Blutproben zur Bestimmung der Fe-59-Aktivität. Beide Behandlungen wurden oral verabreicht. Behandlung A bestand aus Fe-59-markiertem IPC entsprechend 100 mg Eisen, Behandlung B entsprach der Behandlung A, kombiniert mit 600 mg Aluminiumhydroxid (10 mL).
Zwischen den beiden Behandlungen konnte kein Unterschied bezüglich der Eisenaufnahme in die Erythrozyten festgestellt werden. Eine Interaktion von IPC mit Aluminiumhydroxid wurde nicht beobachtet, womit beide Medikamente, wenn nötig, gleichzeitig verabreicht werden können.
