Abstract
Among other things physiotherapeutic treatment of patients with gonarthrosis often uses exercise therapy and manual techniques. This literature review investigated whether a combination of manual therapy and exercise therapy yields additional benefit compared to exercise therapy alone. Currently little significant evidence exists to answer this question. There are, however, indications that the combination of assessment-oriented manual therapeutic treatment and exercise therapy can lead to positive effects concerning pain and function within a few weeks. Additionally patients seem to be more content with the overall treatment result and seem to need less medication in the long term.
