The existence of NICO is largely denied today in main stream dentistry. The reason
is that normal X-ray do not show the process of bone marrow osteolytic NICO. The author
compares in several clinical cases X-rays and other radiographic imaging with a computer-assisted
through-transmission alveolar sonography called CAVITAT, which proves superior to
radiology for the detection of osteolytic NICO. Under a systemic aspect in dentistry
the author is targeting NICO as a possible source of inflammatory immune messengers,
with the striking outcome of high levels of RANTES. It is regarded that raised RANTES
is a proof for inflammatory activity and NICO can be defined as sort of systemic inflammatory
focus.
